Examination and Certification Information
The package includes the first examination attempt and one free retake.
For this Self-Study package, the examination cycle, including the first attempt and free retake, must be completed within 12 months of the package purchase date.
The package also includes the certification application fee and the first year of the PECB Annual Maintenance Fee.
The PECB Certified Lead Ethical Hacker examination consists of two parts:
- A practical penetration testing examination
- A written penetration testing report
During the practical examination, the candidate is required to compromise at least two target machines through authorized penetration testing activities. The candidate must document the process, findings, evidence, and recommendations in a written report.
The examination is open book. Candidates may use the official training materials and their personal notes during the examination, subject to the applicable PECB examination rules.
The examination evaluates the candidate’s knowledge and practical skills across the following areas:

Certification Requirements
Passing the examination does not automatically grant the PECB Certified Lead Ethical Hacker credential.
After passing the examination, you must submit a certification application through your myPECB account and meet the applicable professional experience requirements.
To qualify for the PECB Certified Lead Ethical Hacker credential, candidates must have:
- Successfully passed the PECB Certified Lead Ethical Hacker examination
- At least two years of penetration testing and cybersecurity experience
- Signed the PECB Code of Ethics
- Signed the PECB Certified Lead Ethical Hacker Code of Conduct
Relevant professional experience may include:
