Examination and Certification Information

The package includes the first examination attempt and one free retake.

For this Self-Study package, the complete examination cycle, including the first attempt and free retake, must be completed within 12 months of the package purchase date.

The package also includes the certification application fee and the first year of the PECB Annual Maintenance Fee.

The PECB ISO/IEC 27002 Lead Manager examination is a three-hour, open-book examination consisting of 80 multiple-choice questions. Examination details may be updated by PECB, so candidates should review the official information available when scheduling their exam.

The examination evaluates the candidate’s knowledge across the following competency domains:

  • Fundamental principles and concepts of information security, cybersecurity, and privacy
  • Information Security Management Systems and initiation of ISO/IEC 27002 control implementation
  • Implementation and management of organizational and people controls
  • Implementation and management of physical and technological controls
  • Performance measurement, testing, and monitoring of information security controls

 

Passing the examination does not automatically grant the highest Lead Manager credential.

After passing the examination, you must submit a certification application through your myPECB account. The certification level awarded by PECB will depend on your professional experience and information security management experience.

Depending on the requirements you meet, you may apply for one of the following credentials:

  • PECB Certified ISO/IEC 27002 Manager

Certification Requirements

PECB Certified ISO/IEC 27002 Provisional Manager

This credential does not require previous professional or information security management experience.

Candidates must:

  • Pass the PECB ISO/IEC 27002 Lead Manager examination or an equivalent examination
  • Submit the certification application
  • Agree to follow the PECB Code of Ethics

PECB Certified ISO/IEC 27002 Manager

Candidates must have:

  • At least two years of professional experience
  • At least one year of work experience in information security management
  • At least 200 hours of information security management activities
  • Passed the applicable examination
  • Agreed to follow the PECB Code of Ethics

PECB Certified ISO/IEC 27002 Lead Manager

Candidates must have:

  • At least five years of professional experience
  • At least two years of work experience in information security management
  • At least 300 hours of information security management activities
  • Passed the applicable examination
  • Agreed to follow the PECB Code of Ethics

PECB Certified ISO/IEC 27002 Senior Lead Manager

Candidates must have:

  • At least ten years of professional experience
  • At least seven years of work experience in information security management
  • At least 1,000 hours of information security management activities
  • Passed the applicable examination
  • Agreed to follow the PECB Code of Ethics

 

Relevant information security management activities may include:

  • Drafting an ISMS implementation plan
  • Managing an information security implementation project
  • Implementing information security processes
