Examination and Certification Information
The package includes the first examination attempt and one free retake.
For this eLearning package, the examination cycle, including the first attempt and free retake, must be completed within 12 months of the package purchase date.
The examination evaluates the candidate’s knowledge across the following areas:
- Data protection concepts, GDPR requirements, and compliance measures
- Roles and responsibilities of parties involved in GDPR compliance
- Technical and organizational measures for protecting personal data
Passing the examination does not automatically grant the full PECB Certified Data Protection Officer credential.
After passing the examination, you must submit a certification application through your myPECB account. The credential awarded by PECB will depend on your professional and data protection experience.
Depending on the experience requirements you meet, you may apply for one of the following credentials:
- PECB Certified Provisional Data Protection Officer
- PECB Certified Data Protection Officer
Candidates who do not yet meet the professional and data protection experience requirements for the full Certified Data Protection Officer credential may apply for the Provisional Data Protection Officer credential and request an upgrade after gaining the required experience.
The PECB Certified Data Protection Officer credential requires five years of professional experience, including two years of work experience in data protection, and a total of 300 hours of data protection activities.
Relevant data protection activities may include:
- Assisting organizations in applying GDPR requirements
- Monitoring a GDPR compliance program
- Advising on data protection impact assessments
- Monitoring projects involving the processing of personal data
- Supporting GDPR-aligned privacy and data protection practices
Certification applicants must also agree to follow the PECB Code of Ethics and provide the information required to support their selected certification level.
